A widespread usability issue is disrupting workplace collaboration as the Microsoft Teams paste bug disables right click paste functionality for users across Windows and macOS systems.

Microsoft has confirmed that the issue affects Teams desktop client version 26072.519.4556.7438 and is tied to a code regression introduced in a recent Microsoft Edge update. The bug, first reported by users on April 14, 2026, prevents the right click context menu from enabling the paste option, leaving it greyed out when attempting to insert copied content.

The issue impacts a wide range of use cases, including pasting URLs, text, and images copied from tools such as Outlook, Word, Snipping Tool, and Edge itself. While the right click option is affected, keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl and V on Windows or Cmd and V on macOS continue to function normally, indicating the problem is isolated to the context menu interface.

Microsoft acknowledged the issue in a service health update on April 16, confirming that the Teams desktop application relies on an Electron based framework that integrates the Edge WebView2 runtime. This dependency makes the application vulnerable to underlying browser engine regressions, which in this case disrupted paste functionality.

Independent testing has shown that the bug is reproducible even in Insider builds of Teams and is not linked to organizational policies or administrative controls. Notably, Teams for Web remains unaffected, with all paste operations functioning correctly in browser sessions, further pointing to the desktop client as the source of the issue.

Users have reported that the bug can affect all content types and may not appear immediately. In some cases, Teams initially works as expected, but the issue emerges after restarting the application or rebooting the system. A temporary workaround discovered by users involves modifying URLs before pasting, though this approach is not practical for regular workflows.

Microsoft stated that a fix is currently being rolled out in stages, with telemetry monitoring in place to ensure resolution across environments. In the meantime, users are advised to rely on keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl and V or Cmd and V for standard pasting, or Ctrl Shift V and Cmd Shift V for plain text insertion.

Enterprise administrators are being encouraged to guide users toward these workarounds and report any widespread issues through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. Submitting feedback directly through Teams is also recommended to help accelerate visibility and resolution.

The Microsoft Teams paste bug highlights the challenges of tightly integrated software ecosystems, where updates to underlying components can have unintended downstream effects. As organizations depend heavily on collaboration tools for daily operations, even minor interface disruptions can significantly impact productivity, reinforcing the need for rigorous testing and coordinated update management.
