As enterprises move artificial intelligence from experimentation into production, the need for governance, cost control, and secure delivery has become a critical priority in the cybertech ecosystem. Citrix has introduced a new solution to address these challenges with the launch of NetScaler AI Gateway.

The NetScaler AI Gateway extends the capabilities of Citrix’s application delivery and security platform to support AI workloads, particularly those powered by large language models. Designed as a unified control layer, the solution enables organizations to manage AI traffic with the same operational discipline applied to mission critical applications, ensuring visibility, performance, and compliance at scale.

As AI adoption accelerates, enterprises are encountering new challenges related to traffic patterns, cost structures, and governance. Traditional infrastructure is not built to handle the complexity of AI inference workloads, leading to fragmented tools and inconsistent policies. NetScaler AI Gateway addresses this by consolidating control into a single platform, allowing organizations to enforce policies across all AI applications without introducing additional silos.

“AI is becoming embedded in the operational fabric of the enterprise,” said Steve Shah. “Before organizations scale AI across core business processes, they need trusted guardrails to manage risk, control cost, and maintain performance. NetScaler AI Gateway extends our leadership in enterprise application delivery into the AI era, enabling organizations to run AI services with the governance, visibility, and operational confidence required for mission-critical deployments.”

The platform introduces advanced capabilities to manage AI workloads effectively. These include token based rate limiting to control usage costs, intelligent load balancing based on token latency, and spillover routing to maintain service continuity when usage limits are reached. It also supports prompt management and data redaction, ensuring sensitive information is protected before interacting with AI systems.

NetScaler AI Gateway is already integrated with Citrix’s AI assistant, Aidrien, demonstrating its readiness for real world enterprise deployments. The company has also partnered with Protecto to enhance data protection. Through this integration, sensitive data is identified and masked before reaching AI workflows, reducing the risk of data exposure while maintaining usability.

Protecto’s CEO Amar Kanagaraj highlighted the importance of balancing speed and security. “Every enterprise racing to deploy AI faces the same dilemma: move fast and risk exposing customer data, or slow down and lose competitive ground. That trade-off shouldn’t exist. Protecto’s agentic data classification catches what traditional AI security tools miss, and integrates directly with NetScaler AI Gateway to block or mask sensitive data before it ever reaches AI systems without losing the context AI needs to function accurately. Enterprises can finally scale AI at full speed without putting their data at risk.”

Industry analysts also emphasize the need for centralized governance as AI scales. “As enterprises transition AI from pilot to production environments, the challenges shift from model selection and experimentation to governance, visibility, and control,” said Paul Nicholson. “Organizations require centralized, policy-driven control to ensure visibility, repeatability, and accountability for AI services at scale. Solutions like NetScaler AI Gateway can help organizations address these evolving enterprise requirements.”

The NetScaler AI Gateway reflects a broader industry shift toward treating AI as a managed service with predictable performance, cost, and security. By integrating governance, observability, and protection into a single platform, Citrix is enabling enterprises to scale AI adoption with greater confidence and operational control.
