Virtual IT Group Acquires Security Centric To Boost Cybersecurity

As cyber threats grow more frequent and complex across Australia and New Zealand, managed service providers are expanding capabilities to better protect mid market organisations. The latest move from Virtual IT Group highlights this shift, with the company announcing its acquisition of Security Centric to strengthen its regional security offering.

The VITG acquisition of Security Centric comes at a critical time when businesses across ANZ are facing increasing pressure from sophisticated cyberattacks and rapid digital transformation. By integrating Security Centric’s expertise, VITG aims to enhance its ability to deliver end to end cybersecurity services tailored for mid market enterprises.

Security Centric, known for its background in defence and federal government environments, brings deep capabilities in managed detection and response, governance risk and compliance advisory, security engineering, and technical assurance. Its team will join VITG’s growing cybersecurity division, forming a combined group of approximately 45 specialists. This expansion is expected to strengthen VITG’s 24 by 7 Security Operations Centre, improve its automation platform, and broaden its overall managed security services portfolio.

The acquisition reflects a broader industry trend where managed service providers are evolving into full scale managed security service providers to address growing enterprise needs. With increasing adoption of cloud technologies, artificial intelligence, and interconnected systems, organisations are demanding more integrated security solutions that combine technology management with proactive threat detection and response.

Sash Vasilevski, CEO of Security Centric, emphasized the continuity and enhanced capabilities customers can expect following the integration. “Our customers will see continuity with meaningful uplift. The same trusted team will now be supported by deeper engineering capability, automation expertise, and national reach.” Vasilevski will also join VITG’s executive leadership team as Chief Security Officer, signaling a strategic focus on cybersecurity at the highest level of the organization.

Founded in Australia, VITG operates as both a managed service provider and managed security service provider, with ten offices across Australia and New Zealand and a workforce of more than 400 employees. The company supports mid market organisations in managing their IT environments while addressing rising challenges related to security threats, system complexity, and the accelerating adoption of AI driven technologies.

Maurice McCarthy, CEO of VITG, highlighted the urgency behind the acquisition and its alignment with customer needs. “Mid-market organisations across ANZ are being hit harder and more often by increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. Security Centric brings exceptional capability and a pragmatic, customer-first mindset that aligns strongly with VITG’s vision. Together, we will deliver scalable, security-led outcomes that give customers confidence and resilience in a rapidly changing environment.”

The VITG acquisition of Security Centric underscores a growing emphasis on integrated cybersecurity strategies within the mid market segment. As threat landscapes evolve and digital ecosystems expand, partnerships like this are expected to play a key role in helping organisations strengthen resilience, improve visibility, and maintain control over increasingly complex IT environments.
