1Kosmos has announced that its platform has secured Impact Level 4 (IL4) authorization from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), expanding its existing FedRAMP High Authority to Operate (ATO) to support mission-critical defense environments. With this 1Kosmos becomes the only Kantara-certified credential service provider (CSP) offering both FedRAMP High and IL4 authorization within a single unified identity platform. The certification enables defense agencies and mission partners to verify identities securely and enforce phishing-resistant, passwordless access across sensitive systems.
Fadi Jarrar, Vice President of Public Sector at 1Kosmos, highlighted that identity has become a primary target for adversaries, with phishing, social engineering, and AI-driven impersonation increasingly used to compromise military and contractor accounts. He emphasized that linking system access directly to a verified individual rather than relying solely on credentials can significantly reduce these risks while improving accessibility for distributed defense personnel.
Modern defense operations rely on a wide range of users, including active-duty personnel, civilian employees, contractors, and mission partners. These users often access systems remotely or across fragmented and shared environments, increasing vulnerability to identity-based attacks. Recent incidents involving credential theft and phishing campaigns targeting defense organizations demonstrate that compromised identities remain one of the most effective entry points for attackers.
The 1Kosmos platform is designed to address these challenges by combining identity proofing, a digital identity wallet, and passwordless authentication into a single solution. With IL4 authorization, the platform can now support environments handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and other sensitive data.
Key capabilities include:
- Verification of real individuals behind digital identities
- Passwordless authentication to reduce phishing risks
- Continuous monitoring and hardened security controls
- Simplified architecture that reduces integration gaps
This unified approach helps organizations strengthen security while minimizing operational complexity.
Organizations today must prioritize secure, flexible identity strategies to support modern, distributed operations. This includes enabling secure onboarding for contractors and partners in remote environments, ensuring strong identity assurance for field operations where traditional CAC/PIV methods may not be practical, and implementing robust account recovery processes that prevent help desk exploitation. Additionally, seamless cross-agency and coalition access is critical, allowing trusted identity verification without the need to duplicate infrastructure, ultimately improving efficiency while maintaining high security standards.
By tying authentication to verified individuals rather than credentials, 1Kosmos supports the implementation of Zero Trust architectures across defense systems. The platform integrates with existing identity providers, allowing agencies to modernize access controls without disrupting operations. This latest authorization positions 1Kosmos as a key provider of secure, compliant identity solutions for defense organizations seeking to protect sensitive systems while enabling flexible and scalable access for mission-critical operations.
