Akamai has unveiled new AI-powered capabilities for its Guardicore Segmentation platform, aimed at transforming how organizations design, implement, and enforce security policies. The update introduces automation and intelligence that allow enterprises to accelerate segmentation efforts while improving protection against increasingly sophisticated, AI-driven cyber threats.
As modern IT environments continue to evolve rapidly across cloud, hybrid, and containerized infrastructures, security teams face growing challenges in controlling lateral movement and maintaining visibility. Traditional microsegmentation approaches often require significant manual effort and can leave teams hesitant to enforce policies due to uncertainty. Akamai’s latest enhancements seek to eliminate that friction by using AI to continuously analyze application behavior and generate enforcement-ready security policies.
At the core of the update is an AI engine that understands how applications interact across environments. It automatically maps communication patterns, creates segmentation policies, explains their logic, and simulates their impact before deployment. This approach reduces operational risk while enabling organizations to confidently enforce controls without disrupting business operations.
The platform also introduces continuous discovery capabilities, giving security teams real-time visibility into workloads and dependencies. This ensures that segmentation strategies remain accurate even as environments change, forming a stronger foundation for Zero Trust security models.
Another key feature is proof-driven enforcement, which allows organizations to validate policies before applying them. By combining simulation with real-world insights, teams can reduce attack surfaces and scale security controls without increasing staffing requirements. In parallel, continuous risk containment capabilities enable deeper analysis of threats, correlating exposure data with segmentation policies to limit the potential impact of breaches.
Akamai has also focused on improving collaboration between security teams and application owners. Through a dedicated portal, application owners can participate directly in policy validation and approval workflows, helping reduce bottlenecks and accelerate deployment across large enterprises.
According to Ofer Wolf, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Enterprise Security at Akamai, the enhancements were informed by analysis of hundreds of real-world segmentation projects. The goal was to address common challenges in technology, processes, and human workflows by embedding AI across the entire lifecycle from discovery and policy creation to enforcement and continuous assurance.
Akamai Guardicore Segmentation is designed for organizations operating across hybrid IT, cloud environments, Kubernetes, and AI-driven workloads. With these new capabilities, the platform aims to help enterprises reduce risks such as ransomware and lateral movement while meeting increasing compliance and data security requirements By integrating AI into segmentation workflows, Akamai is positioning its solution as a more adaptive and scalable approach to Zero Trust—one that can keep pace with the dynamic nature of modern enterprise environments.
