Tufin, a leader in network security posture management, has announced a strategic collaboration with Akamai to launch a new joint security solution. By integrating Akamai Guardicore Segmentation with Tufin’s platform, the offering combines workload-level enforcement with centralized policy visibility to strengthen Zero Trust security across enterprise environments. As organizations increasingly rely on a mix of firewalls, cloud platforms, SASE frameworks, SD-WAN, and microsegmentation tools, managing security has become more complex. At the same time, the rise of AI-driven and autonomous systems is accelerating changes in network infrastructure, often reducing direct human oversight. This evolving landscape creates new challenges, particularly when attackers gain initial access and move laterally across systems. In environments with weak segmentation or overly broad access policies, threats such as ransomware can spread rapidly.
Microsegmentation has emerged as a critical defense strategy, helping organizations enforce least-privilege access and contain breaches. However, implementing it alongside existing security layers often introduces operational difficulties. Rapid infrastructure changes especially those driven by automated or AI-powered systems can lead to configuration drift, creating temporary but significant security gaps. Without centralized visibility, segmentation policies may become inconsistent across environments, reducing their effectiveness.
The joint solution from Tufin and Akamai addresses these challenges by bringing segmentation policies into a unified control plane. This approach simplifies policy management, improves visibility, and supports continuous compliance, enabling organizations to more effectively implement Zero Trust across hybrid and distributed networks. Tufin CEO Raymond Brancato noted that while microsegmentation is essential for Zero Trust architectures, it can become difficult to manage without centralized oversight. He emphasized that integrating Akamai Guardicore Segmentation with Tufin’s AI-powered platform allows organizations to connect enforcement with broader security workflows, ensuring consistent policy management, compliance, and overall security posture.
Akamai Guardicore Segmentation enforces Zero Trust principles at the workload level, limiting lateral movement and reducing the spread of threats across cloud and data center environments. Tufin enhances this capability by providing centralized visibility into segmentation policies alongside other security controls including firewalls, cloud security, and SASE through its unified control plane. This enables security teams to analyze, manage, and audit policies more efficiently across the enterprise With this integration, organizations can view segmentation policies in the context of their broader security infrastructure. Security and compliance teams gain the ability to visualize policy behavior, identify misconfigurations, and ensure alignment with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
Domingo Tellez, Vice President of Global Sales for Enterprise Security at Akamai, stated that the collaboration helps organizations implement practical Zero Trust strategies without hindering innovation. By combining Guardicore’s enforcement capabilities with Tufin’s visibility and governance tools, enterprises can more effectively scale their Zero Trust initiatives.
-
Centralized Visibility: Unified view of segmentation policies across hybrid environments, including Guardicore, firewalls, and cloud security controls
-
Policy Analysis: Identification of overly permissive rules, misconfigurations, and potential risks
-
Policy Alignment: Validation of intended versus enforced segmentation to detect drift
-
Audit and Compliance: Detailed change tracking and history for regulatory readiness
-
Integrated Workflows: Streamlined compliance checks and troubleshooting across security layers
By combining enforcement with centralized governance, the solution helps organizations reduce risk while improving operational efficiency. Security teams can deploy and adjust policies more quickly, with greater confidence that segmentation remains aligned with enterprise standards. This integrated approach enables organizations to fully incorporate microsegmentation into their broader security strategy.
