Ericsson has revealed that a cyber incident in April 2025 may have led to the exposure of sensitive data belonging to both employees and customers. The disclosure was made through an official statement following a formal breach notification submitted to the California Attorney General’s office.
According to the company, the compromised data may include personally identifiable information such as names, home addresses, and phone numbers. More sensitive details including Social Security numbers and driver’s license numbers were also potentially accessed. In addition, financial information such as credit and debit card details may have been exposed, along with certain medical-related records linked to affected individuals.
Ericsson indicated that the attack is believed to be associated with a state-sponsored threat actor. While the organization has not named the specific group responsible, such attacks are typically conducted by highly sophisticated cybercriminal networks often backed by nation-states, targeting large enterprises to obtain valuable data for espionage or financial exploitation.
Following the incident, Ericsson initiated a comprehensive internal investigation with the support of external cybersecurity experts to assess the extent of the breach and reinforce its security infrastructure. The company has also begun notifying impacted individuals in accordance with U.S. data protection and breach disclosure regulations.
To support those affected, Ericsson is offering complimentary identity protection services through IDX. These services include credit monitoring, dark web surveillance to detect misuse of personal data, and expert assistance for identity theft recovery. Eligible individuals are encouraged to enroll in these services before June 9, 2026. Additionally, Ericsson is providing identity theft insurance coverage of up to $1 million, aimed at reimbursing financial losses and covering expenses related to fraud or identity theft resulting from the breach. The company reaffirmed its commitment to data security and stated that it is actively strengthening its cybersecurity defenses to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.
