Cloudflare has strengthened its global cybersecurity footprint by deploying dedicated network nodes in Accra, Ghana. This move reflects the company’s growing focus on enhancing localized cyber defense capabilities, especially as cyber threats continue to rise across West Africa. As digital transformation accelerates in the region, organizations are increasingly exposed to sophisticated cyberattacks, making such infrastructure investments both timely and critical.
To further support this initiative, Cloudflare collaborated with its West African partner, Comsec Technology Solutions, to host a three-day cybersecurity seminar in Accra. The event brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from financial institutions, government agencies, telecommunications firms, and essential service providers. Together, they explored strategies to combat the evolving cyber threat landscape affecting Ghana’s digital economy.
The newly deployed network nodes in Accra are designed to detect and neutralize cyber threats closer to their origin. As a result, organizations can benefit from faster response times and reduced risk of disruption caused by attacks launched from distant locations. Additionally, this infrastructure upgrade is expected to improve internet speed, reliability, and overall performance across Ghana and neighboring regions.
A major focus of the seminar was on Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks, which are rapidly becoming one of the most prevalent global cybersecurity threats. Experts demonstrated advanced, automated solutions to safeguard web applications, APIs, and other internet-facing systems. Furthermore, industry-specific sessions addressed critical concerns such as protecting financial systems, securing banking applications, and ensuring the integrity of transaction data. Government-focused discussions emphasized safeguarding national data and strengthening public service platforms.
Officials from the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) actively participated in the sessions and highlighted the need for stronger collaboration among government entities, global technology providers, and local partners. Such coordinated efforts, they noted, are essential to building a secure and resilient digital ecosystem.
Boaz Alon, Chief Executive Officer of Comsec Technology Solutions, said cybersecurity has moved well beyond an information technology concern. “Cybersecurity has transitioned from an IT concern to a critical pillar of business continuity and national trust,” he said, adding that combining global expertise with local implementation knowledge was essential to ensuring Ghanaian organisations remained resilient against emerging threats.
Similarly, Graham Turnbull, Account Executive at Cloudflare, emphasized the importance of partnerships and infrastructure investment. He stated that these efforts are key to helping Ghanaian organizations defend against increasingly complex cyberattacks while maintaining seamless digital operations.
As Ghana’s digital economy continues to grow, sectors such as banking, telecommunications, and government services face heightened cyber risks. Therefore, initiatives like Cloudflare’s infrastructure expansion play a crucial role in strengthening regional cybersecurity and ensuring long-term digital resilience.
