Adva Network Security has announced a major milestone in data protection, securing approval from the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) for its FSP 3000 S-Flex™ 400Gbit/s encryption solution. This marks the world’s first 400G Layer 1 encryption technology certified for safeguarding data classified as Verschlusssache – Nur für den Dienstgebrauch (VS-NfD, “For Official Use Only”) and EU/NATO Restricted.
Unlike any other 400Gbit/s solution currently available, the S-Flex leverages ConnectGuard technology to deliver quantum-safe Layer 1 encryption with post-quantum cryptography (PQC). The certification positions the solution as a critical defense against advanced cyber risks, including harvest-now, decrypt-later attacks that target today’s encrypted data for future exploitation.

Josef Sißmeir, General Manager at Adva Network Security, emphasized the significance:
“Europe urgently needs to strengthen its position on post-quantum cryptography to address long-term risks to sensitive and classified information. With our S-Flex™ platform, we’ve moved from theory to real-world application. This is the first 400Gbit/s Layer 1 encryption technology approved by BSI for VS-NfD and EU/NATO Restricted data, setting a new benchmark for quantum-ready security.”
The FSP 3000 S-Flex™ card, designed for the Adtran FSP 3000 open optical transport platform, combines high performance with robust protection. Key features include:
- Ultra-low latency and high-density architecture
- Support for Ethernet (1GbE to 400GbE) and Fibre Channel up to 64Gbit/s
- IBM Z mainframe compatibility
- Capability to multiplex multiple client services into a single 400Gbit/s wavelength
- Scalable bandwidth to address growing data volumes while ensuring PQC-based encryption

This ensures secure, high-capacity connectivity for enterprises, government agencies, financial institutions, defense organizations, and critical infrastructure operators.
Michael Roth, General Manager at Adva Network Security, added:
“Post-quantum cryptography is no longer optional; it’s essential for Europe’s digital sovereignty. With the S-Flex™, we are delivering the first BSI-certified 400Gbit/s Layer 1 encryption solution capable of protecting classified EU/NATO-restricted data. It enables operators to adopt quantum-safe standards in line with national strategies and prepares them for higher data rates as digital transformation accelerates.”
By pioneering BSI-approved 400Gbit/s quantum-safe encryption, Adva Network Security is not only meeting today’s highest standards but also laying the foundation for the next generation of secure, scalable, and sovereign European digital infrastructure.
