Keepit, the main cloud-native and vendor-neutral supplier of SaaS data protection, is set to take center stage at this year’s Black Hat USA conference. The company aims to shed light on often-overlooked cybersecurity threats, such as corporate espionage, SaaS ecosystem vulnerabilities, and the vital need for infrastructure-agnostic backup solutions to achieve real cyber resilience.

Elevating Critical Conversations Through Key Events and Expert-Led Dialogues

Keepit will use its presence at Black Hat to lead sessions, host exclusive events, and engage in strategic dialogues with cybersecurity professionals. The company plans to spotlight how its platform guarantees continuous access to mission-critical data—regardless of system failure, cyberattacks, or vendor limitations.

VIP Event: investigating Corporate Espionage in the Modern Enterprise

On Tuesday, August 5, Keepit will co-host a private VIP dinner in partnership with CyberRisk Alliance. This invitation-only gathering will bring together cybersecurity leaders, practitioners, and Keepit clients for a thought-provoking discussion on cyber resilience and evolving standards in the SaaS-driven business world.

A key highlight of the evening is the session titled “Corporate Espionage: Lessons from a Retired CIA Insider.” Glenn Corn, a former senior CIA executive and field operations officer, will share insider perspectives on how malicious actors exploit human behavior and internal trust to infiltrate organizations.

Corn will uncover recruitment tactics used by foreign intelligence services and rival corporations to compromise staff—particularly those with access to sensitive digital infrastructure. Following his insights, Keepit’s Chief Information Security Officer, Kim Larsen, will offer real-world defense strategies rooted in his own experience with Danish intelligence and NATO.

Cybersecurity teams often concentrate on external threats and infrastructure risks. But corporate intelligence remains a very real and active threat. Our session will present firsthand intelligence and practical defensive measures,” Larsen stated.

Black Hat Session: Red Team Insights and the Role of Immutable Backups

On Wednesday, August 6, from 12:00–12:20 PM in Business Hall Theater D, Keepit will present a sponsored talk titled “Red Team Tales and SaaS Strategies for Immutable Cloud Recovery.” This session will feature Red Team Manager Bart Binder, who will walk through a simulated cloud breach in which attackers attempted to encrypt and erase backup data.

Binder will be joined by Niels van Ingen, Keepit’s Senior VP of Business Development and Strategy. Van Ingen will explain how evolving SaaS backup architectures—when designed with immutability and independence in mind-can help organizations recover faster and more securely after an incident.

“Immutability is the beginning, not the end,” van Ingen explained. “Genuine cyber resilience demands auditable, autonomous control over your data throughout the entire threat lifecycle.”

Binder emphasized the need for deeper planning: “Organizations often equate immutable backups with total safety. But without operational independence, recovery assurance, and actionable insights, you’re still exposed. Resilience get ready for the worst—and rebounding with speed.”

Dark Reading Interview: The Risks of SaaS Dependency

Later that day, van Ingen will participate in a recorded interview with Dark Reading Newsroom. He will examine the common blind spots organizations encounter when relying exclusively on native tools and shared-responsibility models in SaaS environments.

Van Ingen will argue the necessity of separating production and backup systems, outlining how Keepit’s platform empowers businesses to maintain access to critical data even during provider outages, cyber incidents, or admin mistakes.

Thursday Session: Navigating Multi-Cloud Security Challenges

On Thursday, August 7, from 2:40–3:00 PM in Business Hall Theater B, van Ingen will return for another talk: “Keeping Your Cloud(s) Secure,” part of the Dark Reading speaker track. The presentation will explore the evolving threat landscape of hybrid and multi-cloud environments, where attackers frequently exploit third-party integrations, cloud misconfigurations, and expanding service layers.

As more organizations transition from traditional infrastructure to SaaS and IaaS models, van Ingen will provide concrete strategies for aligning security controls with the realities of today’s distributed IT environments.

“Your data isn’t confined to one location anymore-and neither are your risks,” van Ingen said. “This session aims to equip organizations with the policies and protections they need across increasingly fragmented digital landscapes.”
